I agree whole-heartedly that kudos are in order for Michael McCain, CEO and President of Maple Leaf Foods. Companies that have consistently built a "brand personality" tend to survive crisis communications outbreaks far better than those who do not. In your opinion, has Maple Leaf Foods built a strong enough "brand personality" preceding the Listeria outbreak to carry them through to a brand equity rebound?
You also touched on a key point "...He surrounded himself with smart PR people". Too often when a crisis erupts for a company they turn to their financial and legal experts first and focus efforts around their counsel. Then, they turn to their PR professionals. However, this incident is a great example of how listing to PR experts first may "really pay off" in helping the brand to survive!

Crisis will end. When? No definite date - but what's important is the essence of accepting the fate whatever it is. At least food safety is still important than anything else.
Globally we are facing such crisis because of the economic downturn, many companies had closed mostly are printing companies
